Marshall Crenshaw and Los Straitjackets pack the backyard!
The last Backyard Concert of the season at Wine Country Radio in Santa Rosa was packed to capacity for Los Straitjackets and Marshall Crenshaw. Colorful and fun were the descriptive words that come to mind for this gig! High octane energy, fueled the backyard at the radio station to nearly 500 attendees. Opening was R.J. Bloke a singer songwriter from Boston, MA. RJ Bloke aka Jay Souza is a singer-songwriter for roots rock, alt-country genre. His mother is the great granddaug

Poets (and friends) play Petaluma
Highway Poets CD release night is finally here. Heavily promoted for months prior leading up to this evening. Opening for the Poets, John Courage Trio, Kingsborough and a surprise guest. First up, John Courage Trio. A big sound, quite obviously driven by raw musical passion. For me, a bit reminiscent of what I've seen in footage of Jimi Hendrix in many ways. I've always caught the tail end of Johns sets, but tonight I made it in time for nearly the whole thing, and I am so gl

Russian River Blues Festival 2017
Russian River Blues Festival in Guerneville, a picturesque day along the river. Complete with awesome music, local wine, beer, vendors and plenty of fun. Con Brio...kicking off the day 'with gusto' as their name suggests! A seven piece band, lead by a James Brown/Sly Stone 'esque, 23 year old Ziek McCarter. Con Brio has been hitting a lot of the festival circuits for the past couple of years around the US and the Montreal Jazz festival last year. They impressed me enough in M

The Tubes, (and others), heating it up at Sausalito Art Festival!
Sausalito Art Festival 2017...Over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, and The Tubes begin their set. Short but sweet, but no doubt, typically Tubes. Complete with costume changes and straight jacket even in one hundred degree heat! Fee Waybill entered the stage in a full Zootsuit complete with hat on a scorcher like today, crazy for anyone. As the minutes went by, Fee peeled off his suit and eventually changed to other attire, more appropriate for the pounding heat. Though The Tubes pla

Todd Rundgren, Master of the Unpredictable
Todd Rundgren...an artist I never considered going to see, became the surprise of the week for me. I entered a completely packed Chapel in San Francisco about ten minutes late to the start of the show. Surprised at how packed it was, I made my way upstairs to catch a glimpse of the audience and stage in its entirety. Not only was I surprised at The Chapel being at capacity for this show but the shows title , "Unpredictable" was apropos of the evening that I was about to expe

Yes! And a Lesson Learned.
I'm writing this blog with a personal twist, not being strictley a music review but instead also about an experience I had on my way to a gig. It told me that we all need to be way more aware of our surroundings. Too many people walk the streets looking down at their phone. As I sit with my feet soaking in a tub, from blisters occurring from running unexpectedly in inappropriate footwear. Sitting and reflecting on an eye opening experience that I have most definitely have le
